Pre-Physical Therapy

Gain foundational science pre-requisite knowledge that will prepare you for graduate professional study in a doctoral of physical therapy program.

Anatomy Model

Physical Therapists are highly qualified healthcare professionals who are essential in nurturing a patient's physical well-being and putting them on a path to recovery after medical injuries to improve function in their daily lives.

The pre-physical therapy option, as part of the Health and Exercise Science major, prepares you to apply and gain entrance to a doctoral of physical therapy (DPT) program of your choice and to be adequately prepared for a career in a fast-growing field.

As the healthcare sphere continues to expand rapidly, so does the need for qualified workers. This pre-professional track in Physical Therapy serves the pre-professional needs of students in meeting this growing demand. The university’s strength as a liberal arts institution, combined with a strong foundation in anatomy, biology, physiology, and practical experience through internships in a variety of clinical settings, will help cultivate students for a fulfilling career as a healthcare professional.

Receiving personalized guidance from a Health and Exercise Science academic advisor, students in this option will apply to a DPT program of their choice between their junior and senior years or take advantage of any one of our articulation agreements between Waynesburg University and a number of DPT programs allowing for a direct transition following graduation.

Prepare for a graduate degree

The pre-physical therapy option is tailored to fulfill the prerequisites needed for admission into related advanced degree programs. The curriculum provides a strong general liberal arts education with a sound foundation in biological, chemical, physical, and social sciences. You’ll also be introduced to current literature and topics in health sciences and take courses that blend lecture and laboratory work in injury evaluation, strength and conditioning, as well as assessment and screening procedures.

Gain hands-on experience

You will have the opportunity to gain practical clinical experience through internships in a variety of clinical settings. Prior to that, you will gain hands-on experiences in your coursework beginning in your first year of undergraduate study. We will also connect you to science-focused events in the community that let you share and apply what you have learned while pursuing a path tailored toward helping others.

Work with a dedicated advisor

You will work with an advisor who is an expert in the field of physical therapy. He or she will help you select the appropriate Waynesburg University courses, find internships, and apply for admission to the professional school program of your choice.

Learn in state-of-the-art facilities
