Art exhibit showcases student creativity

The exhibit will feature work from students currently enrolled in art classes

The Waynesburg University Fine Arts Department will host a Student Art Exhibit in the Benedum Art Gallery from Monday, Nov. 26, to Friday, Dec. 7. The exhibit will open with a reception Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

The exhibit will feature work from students currently enrolled in art classes, said Andrew Heisey, chairperson for the Fine Arts Department. He said this event is always exciting, because with a different group of students each semester, it’s a different body of work every time.

“While you do have art majors that are represented, many of the work that you see is that of students who are not majors,” Heisey said. “It’s always exciting to me, as a teacher, to see students realize they have a gift or ability in the arts that they didn’t know they have.”

Heisey said the exhibition gives students an opportunity to find new ways express their creativity, and it highlights the importance of the arts. He hopes students and community members consider visiting the gallery to not only support their fellow classmates, but also to “celebrate the diversity that we have here.”
