Allows CCBC nursing students a streamlined pathway into Waynesburg’s RN to BSN Program

Waynesburg University and the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) have established an agreement to provide registered nurses with an associate degree in nursing a streamlined pathway into Waynesburg’s RN to BSN Program.

“Under terms of the new agreement, CCBC nursing graduates who secure their RN license can earn their bachelor of science in nursing degree from Waynesburg in just a little over a year,” said Dr. Shari Payne, vice president for enrollment at Waynesburg University. “They can do this completely online or at one of our convenient locations in Southpointe, Cranberry and Penn Center East near Monroeville.”

It’s truly a win-win partnership for our institutions, our students and the future of the healthcare profession throughout the region."

Qualifications for acceptance include the completion of a nursing diploma or degree program, free of probation, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students must also possess a current RN license.

Waynesburg will provide eligible students a personal connection and guide them through the online application process. Accepted students will enter the Waynesburg program with 85 credits and work through eleven RN to BSN courses.

“Both CCBC and Waynesburg are known for their high-quality nursing programs,” said CCBC’s Acting Provost Dr. Shelly L. Moore. “It’s truly a win-win partnership for our institutions, our students and the future of the healthcare profession throughout the region.”

According to Dr. Lina Hixson, director of the RN to BSN Program, the courses are strategically designed to progress the student to a level of education expected of a bachelor’s prepared nurse.

“The academic skills needed by today’s nurse leaders in all avenues of healthcare are developed in courses such as scholarship for evidence-based practice, leadership and management, and population health. Our graduates are well prepared to assume leadership roles in the ever-changing healthcare system,” added Hixson.

The five-year agreement will allow Waynesburg to engage with the faculty and advisors at CCBC to recruit quality students into the RN to BSN Program.

“CCBC’s School of Nursing and Allied Health has a long-standing history of quality nursing education, and we are proud to partner with Waynesburg University to allow students to pursue a pathway that ensures their completed associate degrees in nursing will be accepted by Waynesburg’s corresponding program,” said Elaine Strouss, CCBC’s acting dean.
