Waynesburg University Music Program to present spring concert

Olivia Sanvicente Apr 19, 2024

Waynesburg University’s Music Program will present its annual Spring Concert on Saturday, April 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Roberts Chapel. The public is cordially invited and encouraged to attend the free concert.

The concert will feature the Waynesburg University Symphonic Band, directed by Eric Brewer, the music program director and instructor of music, and the Lamplighters Concert Choir, directed by Melanie Catana, assistant professor of vocal music and director of choral music.

Waynesburg University’s Symphonic Band will perform three pieces: “Flourish for Wind Band” and “English Folk Song Suite” by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams, and “Ashokan Farewell” by American musicians Jay Unger and Molly Mason and arranged for a band performance by Chris Holmes.

Senior music ministry major Casey Desrosiers will play a solo during “Ashokan Farewell.”

The Waynesburg University Lamplighters Concert Choir will perform selections from various beloved musicals, such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Hamilton” and “Guys and Dolls.”

“I hope that this music accomplishes two things: one—that audiences have fun, and two—that they can enjoy the music on a deeper level,” Brewer said.
